Dancing with the Stars 23-Mirrorball Champions!

Mirrorball Champions are…

#dwts

img_6674I have been a fan of this show ever since Season 1 and I have to say this season will be a hard one to top.  The entire cast truly came in with a great attitude and really put in the effort.  It was hard not to fall in love with the personalities and stories of each of our stars this season.  There were so many shining stars.

Just a few quick notes:

img_6717

  • RIP to the wonderful Florence Henderson who sadly passed away on Thanksgiving. She was a contestant on DWTS and a regular smiling face in the audience.
  • Congratulations to Mark Ballas & BC Jean who were married on Friday.
  • This season also brought the engagement in the ballroom of the very kind Emma Slater and Sasha Farber! They are both such sweethearts and it will be a night we always remember from Season 23

  • MirrorballI want to give a huge shout out to the Season 23 Dance Troupe: Brittany Cherry, Alan Bersten, Hayley Erbert, Keo Motsepe, Britt Stewart, and Dennis Jauch.  You all worked so hard all season and truly provided us with fantastic quality and creative dance numbers.  I think it’s time to have a few of the troupe members from the last several seasons get a chance at Pro.  They truly have proved themselves.
  • It was announced on the finale that Laurie would be joining the #dwtstour #wecametodance. I am sure she will be a fantastic high energy addition to the show and I look forward to seeing her perform.
  • I will be attending a handful of tour shows and will be posting pics to my various pages starting with my Instagram page so please feel free to follow me @lightscmemories.

img_6681On to the finale:

I absolutely loved the opening number.  Choreographed by the amazing Mandy Moore.  She is an absolute creative genius.

Andy Grammer also performed his new single Fresh Eyes tonight.  Andy is not only a DWTS alum he is a fabulous live performer.  If you get a chance to check him out in concert, do it!  Allison and Keo danced along to his performance and did a beautiful job!

cx7udgyxuaagixl-jpg-largeIt was too fun to watch Maureen McCormick live her huge fan dream of dancing with Babyface, Ryan, Artem, Keo and Dennis tonight.  Maureen was one that I truly felt grew a lot this season.  It’s always fun when a star is also a fan of the show because it allows us at home to live it through their eyes.

The number that Maks did with a group of the ladies was a lot of fun too.  It was so nice to have Maks back this season.  I know he has said he won’t be returning next season because we will enjoying his time being a new Daddy.  I am so happy for him and Peta and wish them so much happiness!

img_6723I loved the friendship that developed between Vanilla Ice and Rick Perry this season.  Vanilla’s performance was a fun blast from the past and even though they might not have been the strongest dancers the partnerships between Witney/Vanilla and Emma/Rick were fun to watch all season and both did work hard.

For the first time ever it came down to 3 athletes in the finale!

img_6725Sharna Burgess & James Hinchcliffe
#TeamStopandGo

They chose their favorite dance to perform again which was the Foxtrot from Cirque night which was a great pick for them.  Full of energy and truly highlighted the skills, fun and fabulous relationship of this team.  James and Sharna had that something truly special.  Sharna has such a humble, unique, genuine way she builds relationships and performs.  She has had several memorable partnerships but, this one truly had that very special magic.  James had tremendous growth all season, he has such an amazing survival story and a personality that shines.

img_6672The gift that James gave to Sharna of the race suit he wore the first time he raced again after his accident was truly sweet.  Sharna truly put together the most amazing piece to close the chapter on James’s survival journey.  They performed a fusion dance of Foxtrot & Viennese Waltz.  It was absolutely beautiful.  James demonstrated all the grace in his movements and it again highlighted the beautiful friendship that developed between them this season.  It was stunning.

img_6728Calvin & Lindsay
#TeamLindsatron

Calvin and Lindsay chose their Argentine Tango from Latin Week as their favorite dance and it was a fabulous choice for them as well.  That dance was filled with passion, absolutely out of this world lifts and it absolutely was a great reminder of the growth that Calvin has had this season.  Calvin really had such a glowing personality and it was fun to watch him develop into a dancer this season.

img_6670Calvin & Lindsay did a Jive & Quickstep fusion.  Calvin and Lindsay almost developed a big brother/little sister relationship this season. Calvin should be so happy with his journey this season.  He grew immensely and I think kept his attitude on the fun this entire season.  He was a joy to watch!  Their fusion dance was a lot of fun, high energy and again showed off all the great dance qualities that Calvin brought to the floor.

img_6722Laurie Hernandez & Val Chmerkovskiy
#TeamVaLaur

Laurie and Val picked their Trio Dance with Maks for their favorite dance.  This Samba was crazy good and it absolutely highlighted Laurie’s amazing skills and the ability to truly get into character of the dances.  Plus who wouldn’t want to dance with the Chmerkovskiy brothers.  Laurie has been such a bright light this season.  She showed a lot of talent, positive energy, poise, courage and maturity beyond her years.

img_6669Val and Laurie had a Foxtrot & Argentine Tango Fusion dance.  Their package was so adorable.  It was sad hearing them talk about this season ending.  I think Val was a tremendous positive influence on Laurie.  Laurie grew so much before our eyes and is truly a remarkable young lady.  Their fusion dance was incredible.  Laurie had that fire, pure determination and the look of champion in her eyes when they started that fusion dance.  I do disagree with those that felt Laurie had an edge this season because of gymnastics.  Laurie was the first gymnast that didn’t use the tricks in the dances this season.  I can speak from personal experience at a lower level.  I was a cheerleader and when I started taking ballroom & latin dance lessons it is totally different and definitely not easy to learn to dance with a partner.

img_6673More on the finale…

The holiday performances of Babyface and Felicia Barton and the beautiful dance numbers performed by Artem & Jenna and Allison and the dance troupe really got you in the holiday spirit!

That all male dance number was totally off the hook.  Hmmm wondering if we might get to see that on the DWTS Tour this year like we did the Magic Mike number from last year’s finale.  I know they are going to switch up the format a bit this year. img_6727

What a treat to get to see Jana & Gleb’s hot Argentine Tango again.  That dance will absolutely go down in the DWTS history as being one of the hottest numbers of all time.  I am really excited that Gleb will be joining the tour this winter.  It will be nice to meet him and see him perform live!

Terra and Marilu’s special highlight number was also a lot of fun to watch.  Many people were asking where Derek was, he was at rehearsals for Hairspray Live!

The Macy’s Stars of Danimg_6721ce number was also choreographed by the amazing Mandy Moore.  This was truly remarkable.  It was creative, it was a technical and visual delight the way she was able to bring the story into motion using the special screen to make the young girl’s dream a reality.  It truly was an absolute Masterpiece!

I loved the tour preview dance we had tonight.  I highly recommend the tours, if you are able to go you will not be disappointed.  It’s always a fantastic entertaining time and the cast this year is fantastic!

Jana’s performance of her hit song Circles as we watched the video of the final 3 couples was just perfect.

The Results:

Lindsay and Calvin came in 3rd place.

MirrorballSharna & James and Val & Laurie were the final two couples and truly they were both so good it could have been a tie this season.  Each partnership just had that special something.  The talent, the creativity of Val & Sharna with their respective partners was just unstoppable this year.  I would have been absolutely thrilled if their partnership had won.

Sharna & James came in 2nd place.

Mirrorball

Dancing with the Stars Season 23 Winners are:

Laurie & Val!

Bravo & congratulations to Laurie & Val.  What a season it was and your partnership was just incredible.  It was great to see Val relaxed and so happy and Laurie grew and improved as a dancer and just proved she was the total package with dynamic ability.  Laurie you absolutely do inspire as does Val!  Keep it up!

Dancing with the Stars TV Night!

Dancing with the Stars TV Night!

#dwts

This season absolutely is filled with a lot of talent, a lot of heart and a desire to be a part of the show and they are giving it 100% which is fantastic.  I also am personally glad that it’s back to 2 nights.  I loved how they did it last night and hearing the insight from the mics on the judges as the couples danced.  I was excited to see what they all would do with TV Night

A few other things I noticed:

It was great to havdwtse the dance with Cheryl, Derek & Maks since they returned to the show and all three had been on the show for a long time so they deserve the extra recognition.  However,  I think they should have been paired up to dance with the 3 other returning pro’s Emma, Allison & Gleb just to give them some credit and recognition as well.

Bravo to the 3 musical performances including Gavin DeGraw who performed both nights, Daya & Charlie Purth.  I also loved all the Pro numbers this week.  Mandy Moore is just amazing!  Bravo to all the hard work of the troupe too!  You all work so hard and it’s absolutely recognized.

img_5626Artem Chigvintsev and Maureen McCormick

#TeamMaureen

 img_5429

You cannot help but route for Maureen, she has such a great spirit and drive.  I love their partnership. Artem has that natural calmness which I think will help Maureen throughout the season.  I really thought they improved a lot over last week.  Maureen seemed to shake off the nerves and had a lot more confidence and have fun with the dance.  I thought they were underscored by a few judges when compared to the other dances of the night.

img_5624Jana Kramer & Gleb Savchenko

#TeamGlamer

img_5634

Jana shared that she had an injury that she was battling this week in which she has torn muscles between her ribs.  Injuries like that are so hard because it really just takes time, I know she mentioned after the show that she had a steroid shot and they do work wonders so let’s hope she heals quickly.  They are such a great couple with so much promise.  I thought they performed really well tonight given the injury and have the potential to be in the final 3 on the show as of right now.   Also kudos to Gavin DeGraw for a great performance as they danced.

img_5627Rick Perry & Emma Slater

#TeamDanceForOurVets

img_5639

Rick really got lucky with his partnership with Emma.  Emma has natural spunk, great sense of humor, patience and she’s a great teacher.  I thought the dance was full of character and it was entertaining to watch.  Definitely could be better but, Rick has never danced before and he truly is putting his heart into learning and has an exuberance that is contagious.  It was fun.  Half the battle in learning anything new is the attitude you have.

img_5618Lindsay Arnold & Calvin Johnson Jr

#teamLindsatron

img_5426

I am enjoying Calvin.  He has a captivating personality and he’s a lot of fun.  He and Lindsay have a fun banter and are developing a great partnership.  I loved their dance to Family Matters.  He looks like he is having fun and working hard.  He also has the ability to get into character which isn’t always easy as we have seen in the past on the show.

img_5625Amber Rose & Maksim Chmerkovskiy

#TeamSpicySalsa

img_5428

I like this partnership.  I truly didn’t know much about Amber prior to the announcement but, I am glad so far the packages are allowing us to get to know her better.  I know she had a rough first week but, overall I thought she improved a lot this week.  I thought she showed a lot more confidence and engagement with Maks.  She did a great job of staying in the character of the dance and WOW Maks looked so good as well.  You can tell she is a hard worker and will keep building on her performances.

img_5622Jake T Austin & Jenna Johnson

#TeamJSquared

I had a feeling Jake was going to be the one that went home this week.  The performances both weeks were a bit off on timing and it looked like he was constantly trying to catch up.  Plus complaining about the judges this early was probably not the best and there was one or two eye rolls when the scores were given.   Confidence is good but, also understand you need feedback to grow at anything in life.  You are learning to dance and the judges are trying to provide feedback to help you improve your scores week over week.  Jenna worked hard at her first season as a pro and its unfortunate it ended after the 1st elimination.

img_5621Vanilla Ice & Witney Carson

#TeamIceNSpice

img_5629

OMG Witney nailed the character!  It was super fun to watch.  He has a great personality and has been fun to watch on the show so far.  Definitely could use a bit more polish but, it’s week 2 and all of the celebrities will continue to grow as the weeks go on.  I thought they did a good job and loved the character of the dance.

img_5623

Terra Jole’ & Sasha Farber

#TeamXL

img_5423

Terra is really doing so good!  I give her a lot of credit and her attitude is fantastic.  She works thorough her challenges but, doesn’t want to be defined by them.  Her revenge on Sasha’s prank too was absolutely hilarious.  Bravo to Sasha who has done a fabulous job of working with the challenges and putting together wonderful dances.  Terra keep that confidence up girl you are doing really well.

img_5628Kenneth “Babyface” Edmonds & Allison Holker

#TeamHolkerFace

img_5414

Babyface really floored me this week.  I think he is going to be a dark horse and one to watch in this competition.  He also mentioned that he is shy.  It’s so interesting to learn that many entertainers are actually quite shy people.  I thought their dance this week was really good.  Bravo to Allison on her creativity.  It was so clean, precise, sexy and a lot of fun to watch.

img_5616Laurie Hernandez & Val Chmerkovskiy

#TeamVaLaur

img_5631

Laurie came out and owned the dance floor once again this week and her personality just shines when she performs.  She is just so precise and just a total dynamo to watch.  She is living her dream being on the show and clearly working hard at her performances.  I disagree with those that say she has an advantage from being a gymnast.  Yes she is fit and had to do floor routines but, ballroom dancing is totally different.  She clearly is working hard and it’s so much fun watching Val having so much fun with this partnership.  Bravo!  Loved that Julianne told her she is Disney’s Beyoncé!

img_5617Sharna Burgess & James Hinchcliffe

#TeamStopandGo

img_5430

I absolutely think James and Sharna have the potential to be in the final 3 this season.  James has the natural dancing abilities for sure and clearly also can get into character of the dance.  He is taking all of the feedback and improving every week.  I am excited to watch him perform each week.  Sharna is absolutely fabulous as always.  I really love this partnership.  I thought they were scored a bit low.

img_5620Derek Hough & Marilu Henner

#TeamHennergy

img_5411

Derek had a real challenge on his hands this week.  The music was incredibly slow but, Derek was able to work with it and put together a unique performance.   Marilu was graceful and showed improvement over last week.  It’s always so much fun watching people live their dreams.

img_5619Ryan Lochte & Cheryl Burke

#TeamCherLoch

img_5424

I think after this week they should stop discussing the incident and let Ryan shine on his dancing.  Their dance was a lot of fun and I thought Ryan did a good job.  He clearly is not a natural dancer but, you can tell he is working at it and wants to be successful.  I thought the dance was creative and showed improvement.

In Jeopardy:

Amber & Maks

Ryan & Cheryl

Maureen & Artem

Jake & Jenna

Jake & Jenna were eliminated.

Next week:

Per Maks’s blog on EW.com

“Next week will be the presidential debates, and we will only have an hour-long show. So, the format will be different — it’s going to be a face off. They split us into six groups of two pairs, and each pair has the same style of dance. So we’ll each dance, and then we get a score, and whoever has the higher score will have immunity from elimination.”

These are the Face Off Match ups:

Laurie & Val VS Marilu & Derek:  Dance Tango

Calving & Lindsay VS Terra & Sasha:  Viennese Waltz

Ryan & Cheryl VS James & Sharna:  Cha Cha

Jana & Gleb VS Babyface & Allison:  Jive

Rick & Emma VS Vanilla Ice & Witney:  Paso Doble

Amber & Maks VS Maureen & Artem:  Salsa

Ideal Meet & Greet/Photo Op

Ideal Meet & Greet/Photo Op

If I could sit down with celebrity VIP teams…

This is a topic I have been thinking about for the last few years.  It’s part of the reason for starting this blog.  I never want this page to be a negative place but, rather somewhere to share information, experiences, value etc.  If I could sit down with artist’s and their management teams to give them insight into what fans feel are best VIP practices this is what I would say:

  1. Artists should keep their commitments. It’s one of the things that I think a pop star and his team did wrong earlier this year.  If they didn’t want to do meet and greets anymore that’s fine but, finish the ones that you had committed to, implement rules to meet your needs in the interim and have your team enforce them but, respect that a good portion of your VIP attendees often are paying to travel for the experience.

  1. Don’t do photo assembly lines. I truly wish all artists that did meet and greets would commit to an hour or so of their time depending on the #’s and do it right, treat each person like a human being, say hello, ask their name, ask where they are from (stars may be shocked how far some will travel to see them), have a genuine interaction, then take the photo.  Let’s face it these meet and greets, photo ops, fan trips cost a large sum of money, show the fans you value and respect their time and money by giving them an interaction.  When an artist’s team brags that they did 300 pictures in 16 minutes that truly is disappointing vs a recent event I was at they had about 200 people and they devoted a solid hour or more, it wasn’t rushed and everyone that walked out after was so happy, felt so special and most of all valued.

  1. Make the interactions private. What I have been seeing quite a bit lately is a curtain box created and have thought that is such a great idea.  You can step in, have your interaction and not have 200-300 people watching it.  It helps with your nerves too, nobody wants to feel like they are in a fishbowl it also solves the issue of people taking photos of the entertainer/star as they approach.  It will also help the genuine interaction because then they are not still speaking to the person ahead of you etc.

  1. Make the rules clear, stick to them and let them know what will happen if they violate the rules. If you say don’t take your cell phones out and ask for a selfie and someone does don’t post the photo, if you say don’t hug, kiss and rub all over an artist and people do don’t post the photo.  I would guarantee you would only have to enforce it once and word would travel.  Too many fans will just take liberties, ignore the rules just to achieve their own objective and it truly does spoil the process for others in many cases and it’s disrespectful to the artist.

  1. Post photos in a timely manner. The companies that have them posted same day or in 24 hours always get a WOW for service from me.  VIP Nation events have been crushing it with this service the last year.  All events I have gone to hosted by them they have been up during the show or the next day.   It’s been nice to see many are getting them done quickly lately, people are always so excited to receive them so the faster the better.

  1. Give organic genuine experiences. A few tours recently I have seen many people asking for kisses, hugs etc.  You are putting the stars in an awkward position because if they say no then they can be looked at like they are being a jerk but, people have to realize in most cases you are a stranger or a familiar face in the crowd to the artist.  Would you want a stranger walking up and asking you to kiss them, hug them etc.?  It’s such a better experience when it happens organically and it’s something the artist initiates because it’s genuine and something they truly wanted to do.  On the flip side though as the artist make an effort to say hello, ask someone’s name and go from there.

  1. Please no gum or food in your mouth. I have a few photos with different entertainers with a wad of gum clearly seen in the pic and then recently had an experience where someone was eating a marshmallow.  Again people pay a lot for these experiences, travel long distances and it’s just respectful not to have food/gum in your mouth and seen in the photos.

  1. Respect the time of individuals paying for the VIP experience. Don’t make them arrive 2 hours ahead to just stand in line and don’t leave them in the various elements like extreme heat & cold.  Be organized. Nobody likes to stand around waiting for hours.

For random interactions with stars I always like to see who puts in the extra effort with their fans.  I can say after seeing it many times that Keith Urban is one of the best at this.  Keith will stop and literally do selfies with 40 people and it takes maybe 10 minutes.  Now in these random cases I think it’s fine to do a quick hello, photo and move on you are not paying for it.

I think the stars also need to be careful the way their team is representing them.  At the softball game at CMA fest one of the entertainer’s boyfriend’s came out where fans were lined up after the game and was telling a guy to hurry up and have her car pulled around because she didn’t want to stop for fans.  Another country star I saw three times at CMA fest once on the pink carpet, at Fan Fair X and then out and about and he could not be bothered to take a photo or have an interaction but as soon as a TV camera was on him he changed right away.  I personally will not spend my money, pay to travel, attend a concert of anyone that shows such disregard for fans.  It’s all in how the situation is handled.  Like I said in my CMA Fest blog from Day 3 instead of responding “NAH” to someone, say sorry not today.  Treat people like human beings and they will in turn reward you by devoting their time and spending their hard earned money to support your career.

One star recently said it best you always have to treat each person special because that may be your 1 time ever to meet that person that has supported you and you don’t know what they had to do to be at that show, if they saved for 6 months, flew across the country etc.  Whether it’s a 30 second selfie interaction or a paid meet and greet it’s your chance to make and leave an impression both on the fan and star’s end.  I will always support the ones that care and truly get it because that adds value to the experience.  I also feel we all have to treat them respectfully.

I would love to hear more thoughts on this from those that read the blog…

Until next time,

Season 22/Week 7

Crazy we are at week 7 already and tonight is double eliminations!  The opening with the 360 degree cameras was what they filmed when I was at the show, it was a very cool experience.  Tonight is Icons Week!

Jodie Sweetin & Keo Motsepe:  Quickstep
Music: “For Once in My Life” by Stevie Wonder

#teamMoSweetJodie2

Jodie has performed some seriously intense dances this season so far.  I am looking forward to something more lighthearted.  Jodie is trying to figure out what more they need to do to get higher scores.  I think it’s also new to Keo.  He is such a strong dancer and this is the furthest he has gone in a competition to date so they are figuring it out together.

Jodie and Keo should both be proud of their continued improvement.  This season is so tough because it has a crazy amount of talented individuals participating.  Jodie has consistently improved,IMG_2561 (2) she brings a strong desire to do well and to learn and they are a real joy to watch.  Absolutely loved their enthusiasm when their scores were announced.

Scores:   8-9-9 (26 out of 30)

Kim Fields & Sasha Farber:  Samba
Music: “ABC” by Jackson 5

#teamKimSha

13094104_10154137411266740_6897574259889636927_nI keep saying it but, Kim and Sasha are seriously the cutest partnership and you can tell they have formed a genuine friendship.  I love how Sasha likes to keep things light and wants to use last week’s scores to fuel their drive for this week.  This will be a fun week for them as they are dancing to a Jackson 5 song and Kim is friends with Janet.

Kim and Sasha are just a joy to watch, I thought the dance was light, the set and wardrobe was creative.  Kim is infectious with her energy.  The judges all liked it and had good comments for them.  Len said it was their best dance and I would agree!  It lead to their highest score this season and Kim was beaming.

Scores:  9-9-9 (27 out of 30)

Nyle DiMarco & Peta Murgatroyd:  Foxtrot
Music: “Beautiful Day” by U2

#redefiningdance

Nyle cauNyle2ght a lot of flak last week because of his comment about Val being his biggest competition.  He was able to clarify what he meant a bit more and he seemed to really take it to heart that people would be looking at him like he was cocky.  I don’t think there is anything wrong with aspiring to be the best in whatever field it is you are in, it’s good to stay motivated by that.12794640_1708426052703623_6862659142724183090_n

Peta put together a beautiful, stripped down Foxtrot to remind everyone what an amazing dancer Nyle is. It was absolutely moving and graceful.  I loved Peta’s overall look tonight too, that dress was gorgeous and the front braid was so pretty.  It was such an elegant dance and Nyle continues to amaze everyone.  The judges all liked it and I loved what Len said “others climb hills but, Nyle climbs mountains”.

Scores:   10-9-9 (28 out of 30) Yes there was another scoring issue, Bruno wrote down a 9 but, held up the 10 paddle.

Antonio Brown & Sharna Burgess:  Tango
Music: “Paint it Black” by the Rolling Stones

#teamboomin

I am so Antonio1glad that Antonio decided to stay in Los Angeles this week and really put everything into rehearsals.  They seem to be back on track and I am glad he is taking advantage of having an amazing coach on the show.

Sharna did an absolutely amazing, creative job with the chorography!  I loved it!  Antonio really seemed to get into the character and intensity of the dance.  I thought it was a great job.  Poor Sharna had a little wardrobe malfunction but, she handled it with her IMG_2560 (2)usual humor and grace.  I did wonder why Tom couldn’t have whispered something to her rather than bringing it up in such a public manner.  The judges all liked it but, they noticed a few mistakes.

Scores:  8-8-8 (24 out of 30)

Wanya Morris & Lindsay Arnold:  Foxtrot
Music: “I Say a Little Prayer” by Aretha Franklin

#teamyayazee

Wanya has losCep4rolWEAEOy_n.jpg larget some serious weight since starting the show and I do really like his humble attitude.  I never really care much for the packages that highlight the busy schedules because it always feels like they are trying to make an excuse.  They all have really busy schedules, some are flying coast to coast each week, others are in training camps etc.  What matters is do they find the time when it matters and put in the work when they can.

Their dance was cute, it was solid.  I definitely think Wanya excels more at the Latin dances and I really think that is because he hWayna1as such a big personality.  He is very likeable and clearly works hard.  I agreed with Carrie Ann that it was good but, she was wanting more.  Wanya has the right attitude and you can tell he is very motivated.

Scores:  9-9-9 (27 out of 30)

Ginger Zee and Val Chmerkovskiy:  Viennese Waltz
Music: “I Have Nothing” by Whitney Houston

#teamGinandJuice

Last wVal2eek’s scores and feedback had Ginger concerned and discouraged.  Val dialed up the drive and intensity so he could help her have a breakout week.  I personally love Val’s style, he wants what is best for his partner.  When he said he always does this and doesn’t want to ruin the experience for her it made me sad in a way.  Having a drive and a genuine care for your partner isn’t going to ruin the experience and Ginger is smart enough to see that.  That is one of the things I have always admired about Val compared to some other pros on the show, you can tell he does everything out of pure love and care for his partner not for his own personal gain/credit etc.Val Good

Their dance was stunningly beautiful.  Ginger absolutely embodied the character of the dance.  You felt like your heart was right there on the dance floor with them.  It was magical, graceful, powerful, romantic and absolutely perfect in every way.  Ginger and Val shined so bright and I loved it so much I watched it back a few more times!  The judges all LOVED it too!  Val,  I agree with Len, BRAVO on the beautiful chorography.

Scores:  10-10-10 FIRST PERFECT SCORE OF THE SEASON!

Von Miller & Witney Carson:  Salsa
Music: “A Little Less Conversation” by Elvis Presley

#teamBlondeMiller

I truly th13138926_10154137411271740_4484264791927205622_nink Von is finally relaxing and allowing people to truly see his personality.  I found myself finally routing for him the last 3 weeks.   This dance should be fun and I think it’s a great idea that Witney had to incorporate lifts and take advantage of Von’s strengths this week.

I thought he did a great job getting into character.  Witney did a great job of putting together a dance that would fit the character, that was fun, dynamic, and you can tell Von is having fun in this competition.  The judges all liked it over all, they felt it was a bit rough here and there but, overall good.

Scores:  8-8-8 (24 out of 30)

Paige VanZant & Mark Ballas:  Jive
Music: “Proud Mary” by Tina Turner

#teamPowRightIntheKisser

Paige mentioned that it sPaige1hook her confidence last week being in jeopardy.  It made me sad to hear her doubting herself and if people liked her and are voting for her.  Paige you are amazing, be confident! You are beautiful, talented, sweet and truly kind and that is why people are rooting for you!CeGvaQ3XIAE9fGo

Paige and Mark blew the roof off the studio with their absolutely AMAZING dance.  The energy, content, fun factor was out of this world.  They are a great partnership and I am enjoying Mark’s chorography this year.  He is truly working towards all of Paige’s strengths and all I can say after tonight is WOW!  That was so, so good!  Judges all loved it.  Len said it UFC-Under Full Control

Scores:  10-10-10 PERFECT SCORE!

Team Dances:Men vs women

Men #teamJamesBrown

I thought their dance as good.  I can’t say it had the wow factor but, it was a solid and fun performance.  I absolutely noticed that when Nyle was slightly ahead of the music that everyone else just joined in and got in sync with him.  He continued to impress me to not only do good with Peta but, in a group setting with so many moving parts it was great.  They made a good team!

Scores:  9-9-10 (28 out of 30)

Women #teambeyonce

This will be an exciting team to watch.  They are all super motivated.   I thought it was overall good, it too was lacking the wow factor of past team dances but, it was solid.  Loved the focus on girl power!  The judges liked it but, commented on a few of the mistakes that they were able to see.  Len was commenting this season is so hard because you just have no idea who will win this mirror ball.

Scores:  8-8-9 (25 out of 30)

Double Elimination Time:

In jeopardy this week are:

Wanya & Lindsaydouble elmination

Witney and Von

Kim and Sasha

We said goodbye to Kim/Sasha and Von/Witney.  Both couples should walk away with their heads held high.  They both improved each week and this season is filled with crazy talent.  They will be missed.  It’s sad to see Von go at a time I felt he truly was opening himself up more to the competition.  I will miss the joy Kim has brought to the show each week.

Next week:  The judges will team up the dancers and each will coach two couples and then the stars of each team will step away from their pros and dance together.  From what I am seeing it looks like the match ups will be:

Carrie Ann: Antonio/Sharna and Paige/Mark

Len:  Ginger/Val and Wanya/Lindsay

Bruno:  Jodie/Keo and Nyle/Peta

Each group dance will be judged by the two remaining judges and America.  Viewers can score celebrity performances alongside Len, Carrie Ann & Bruno, live, during the broadcast (EST/CDT).  To be part of the judges’ table, viewers must visit abc.com to score performances.  A combined overall viewer score for each performance will be counted alongside the judges’ score.  Each viewer may score a performance once, and the scoring window for each couple is open for 2 minutes, 15 seconds, beginning at the start of each routine.

Also want to compliment the troupe each performance tonight was amazing!  Great job!

Dancing with the Stars: Famous Dances Night #famousdances

Dancing with the Stars:  Famous Dances Night

#dwts

#dwts22

#FamousDances

Season 22/Week 6

Famous Dances night is another exciting night on Dancing with the Stars and today also happens to be Len’s Birthday!

The opening number to “Putting on the Ritz” was so much fun and Val in the sparkling shorts was just too hot!  The talent of all the dancers on the show truly is endless.

Let’s get this night going!

Kim Fields & Sasha Farber:  Jive

#teamKimSha

Music: “You Can’t Stop the Beat” from Hairspray
It was great to see Kim and Sasha back together again, they truly have such a fun relationship.  One thing I feel needs to be said though is the packages are not always a fair/accurate portrayal.  I have met Keo on several occasions and he is not a spoileSasha Famousd sport and more than likely just needed a few minutes to himself after the tough comments he received from the judges last week but, instead they made him come off like a spoiled sport/brat.  Kim does have an injury,  a stress fracture. Kim is tough and wants to work hard and put on a great dance.

I thought they did a good job tonight.  Kim held her own with the troupe dancers backinCeqXaXfWIAA1BSqg her up, it seemed to be a seamless routine, lots of energy, lots of smiling, fun, great footwork considering her injury, I didn’t see that is affected her and it was a great way to open the show!  The judges all loved it, Carrie Ann felt it was missing a little bit of energy.

Scores:  8-8-8 (24 out of 30)

Von Miller & Witney Carson:  Jazz

#teamBlondeMiller

Music: “Bad” by Michael Jackson

It was awful to see Witney beatingWitney herself up over the scores last week.  She is a very talented teacher and absolutely shouldn’t take that personally.  This week Von seemed to be very much in the zone, the last two weeks he has been really turning it around in my eyes, he seems to be letting his guard down and I have found myself routing for him.  It seems he is more in it to win it than he had been IMG_2558 (2)the first few weeks.

They really had such a fantastic dance tonight.  Von did a great job and I loved the look of pure pride on Witney’s face at the end of the dance.  Von did a seamless job with the male pro’s backing him up.  He seems to be a lot more comfortable and his footwork was really good.  They should be very proud of this performance.  All the judges loved it!

Scores:  8-8-8 (24 out of 30)

Jodie Sweetin & Keo Motsepe:  Contemporary

#teamMoSweet

 Music: “Try” by Pink

It had been reported that Jodie had been injured and taken to the hospital during rehearsals this week.  It was great she was able to come back and dance.  In the footage it showed she actually had hurt her face and her ankle this week.  That sound that came from her ankle wasn’t good at all and it showed how badly she wants to stay in this competKeo Famousition.  Nothing was fractured so if she can tolerate it they would allow her to dance.   Jodie and Keo work so hard and really enjoy their partnership.

I really felt tonight’s dance suited them well.  It was emotional, it was intenIMG_2561 (2)se, the lifts were amazing and they both truly told the story in the movement.  I absolutely loved it and I am glad this partnership is back together.  Jodie should be proud of herself, every week she truly improves and tonight she was brilliant.  The judges all thought they did a great job!

Scores:  9-8-8 (25 out of 30)

Paige VanZant & Mark Ballas:  Jazz

#teamPowRightInTheKisser

Music: “Soul Bossa Nova” from Austin Powers

Paige and Mark staMarkrted out with a challenge because their original song got pulled due to legal reasons which set them back a few days because Mark had to start over on choreography.  I love their partnership.  This dance will be fun too because Paige will be able to show off some of her athletic abilities.

I thought their dance was fantastic.  It was quirky, it was fun, it haCeGvaQ3XIAE9fGod great musicality, and Paige brings out this really fun side to Mark.  I think they are doing an absolutely fabulous job and I truly think we will see Paige in the finals, she performs each and every week brilliantly and you can tell how much fun she is having on the show.  Great job!  Judges all loved it!

Scores:  9-10-9 (28 out of 30)

Nyle DiMarco & Peta Murgatroyd: Quickstep
#redefininPetagdance

Music: “Hey! Pachuco” from The Mask

I really wasn’t liking some of the packages this week, I know the producers are trying to create drama but, come on represent the stars/pros fairly because otherwise it gives the audience a false representation and then that can cause issues in the voting.  I am sure Nyle was likely asked do you consider yourself a front runner or something along those lines and maybe asked who his greatest competition is in in the show.  I didn’t take his response as a cocky.  Everyone should remember there is a big difference between being confident and being cocky.  I felt they did the same thing to Tamar last year in one of the packages.  Val even tweeted this after the show:

Val Tweet

I felt their dance was fun, creative, full of energy, good footwork and Nyle fully captured the character from The Mask.  The dance had a lot of content as well and the Quickstep certainly doesn’t look easy.  I wouldn’t say it was their best dance but, it certainly wasn’t bad by any means.  The judges gave mixed reviews.  Carrie Ann12794640_1708426052703623_6862659142724183090_n felt he wasn’t as crisp, that his frame was broken and that there was a section where they were out of sync.  Len had some good/poor comments.  When he made the comment that he shouldn’t compare himself to Val that it will annoy people that was a bit harsh.  I am not sure exactly what the judges were trying to accomplish tonight, perhaps to rein in the confidence or something?  If Nyle is striving to be as good as Val it’s good to have goals like that, I say Dream Big!

Scores:  8-8-9 (25 out of 30)

Ginger Zee and Val Chmerkovskiy:  Jazz

#teamGinandJuice

Music: “Nasty” by Janet Jackson

Val and Ginger make suVal Famous1ch a fun pair this season.  Ginger is just very sweet and down to earth and truly enjoys every minute of being on this show.  I don’t understand how she does it most days getting up so early for GMA, flying back and forth, spending time with her sweet baby and rehearsing but, that just shows how dedicated she is to it.  She took some time off this week and staye
d in LA so she could reset a bit.

Ginger did fantastic, she was fierce, she was fabulo
us, considering she is not an actress I feel she really can pull off the characters of each dance so well.  She was able to really show her stuff and truly stay in sync with all the male pro dancers thVal Goodat were backing her up.  Carrie Ann liked it but, was wanting to see a bit more and pointed out how rehearsed she always is.  Bruno
said she just has to punch it more to take it to the next level.  Ginger youalways make everyone proud.

Scores:  8-8-8 (24 out of 30)

Doug Flutie & Karina Smirnoff:  Bollywood

#teamKutie

Music: “Jai Ho” from Slumdog Millionaire

Doug is truly the Doug famousone you want to root for each week because you can tell how hard he is working, how much he wants to improve and he is truly on such a tough season because the talent is just crazy this season.  This will be a challenge since Karina had never done this style either.

The dance was great, it was fun and I absolutely would say its Doug’s best dance.  He truly seemed to be having a ton of fun.  He really held his own with the troupe as well.  Doug has an amazing spirt and I can see why he is so respected and has so many fans.  The judges all complimented him.

Scores:  7-7-7 (21 out of 30)

Wanya Morris & Lindsay Arnold:  Jazz

#teamyayazee

Music: “Bye Bye Bye” by NSYNC music video

Great to have Lindsay and Wanya together again, they have a magic partnership.  I loved what Wanya was saying to Witney after the scLindsay famousores last week, he truly is a class act.  It’s going to be fun to see him dance to an NSYNC song since he and Joey are good friends.  Lindsay is such a fantastic choreographer and she is really able to demonstrate it more and more each week.

The dance was incredible, Wanya absolutely crushes the faster styles.  Loved the section with the screens, they had perfect timing and it looked like a professional video shCep4rolWEAEOy_n.jpg largeoot.  Wanya is so much fun to watch, he has insane charisma and like I said above a ton of class.  They both should be very happy with their performance tonight. The judges, Lance and Joey all loved it!

Scores:  10-9-10 (29 out of 30)

Antonio Brown & Sharna Burgess: Jive

#teamboomin

Music: “Footloose” from Footloose

I have been a fan of Antonio’s all season but, I have to say tonight was disappointed in his comments to Sharna in the package.  Sharna is one of the best pros on the show not just because she is so good but she is understanding, compassionate and she keeps it real Sharna famouswith her partners.  I felt his attitude was unwarranted.  Maybe he needs to step it up and give the experience on the show that much more.

I did like their dance tonight.  It was a lot of fun, it appeared most of his footwork was totally in step with the troupe dancers.  They brought the fun, super high energy and overall his attitude was better and he had a renewed desire to win it all and seemed to work hard thIMG_2560 (2)is week.

Scores:  9-9-9 (27 out of 30)

Elimination Time:  I admit I had a WTF moment when they said Paige and Mark, no way did they belong in jeopardy.

In jeopardy this week:

Paige & Mark

Von & Witney

Doug and Karina

Doug and Karina were eliminated.  It was time for Doug to go but, he certainly should go with his head held high.  He’s done a great job, he has worked hard and brought a lot of heart!

Next week is DOUBLE ELIMINATION:  VOTE by phone, Facebook and on abc.com so your favorites are not sent home!  Next week is also Team Dances Men vs. Women!

I truly think from here on out things get really hard on the eliminations.  This season is just filled with so much talent as I keep saying.  I am not liking that Val & Ginger, Von & Witney and Kim and Sasha were all tied for the bottom of the leaderboard.

Few other points of interest:

Jenna Johnson @dance10Jenna and Artem Chigvintsev @theartemc have this amazing dance video to Zayn’s “Pillow Talk” Share this video so they may get a chance to perform it live on the show!  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AVPqbQTnC6Q

#PillowTalk

Also want to compliment the troupe each performance tonight was amazing!  Great job!  Alan and Brittany that was an insane Swing Bumper you did this week!

Dancing with the Stars: Live Studio Audience 4/18/16

Make memories, don’t collect things…

About 10 years ago I had a friend from high school who tragically passed away from cancer far too soon and an Uncle that had saved his entire life to fulfill all of these dreams he had when he retired, he ended up with brain cancer and passed away before he had that chance.  Those two deaths truly changed my outlook on life.  You need to make memories, have experiences, make the most of every day because life changes in the blink oDSC00349f an eye.

I have been a viewer of Dancing with the Stars since season 1 and I had always hoped to one day be in the live audience.  A cast member at the show kindly offered to give me tickets to the show and to say I was excited would be an understatement.  I quickly determined who I wanted to take with me and made all the travel plans to get out to LA for the Switch Up week.

I arrived around 4:00 and went to the VIP check-in area.  They verified we were on the list aNylend told us what section we were in etc.  At that point they take your cell phones from you and you are given a card to pick them up after the show.  After that you go through a metal detector and they check your belongings.  Once you are set with that you are escorted into the studio to your section and then to your assigned seats.  It was such a surreal experience walking into the studio.  It was much smaller than it looks on TV.  We were seated on the 2nd level, front row directly across from the judges table and the interview room was directly to my left.  It was so exciting to actually be in the studio and to realize I would be able to see everything perfectly from where I was seated.

Not long after we were seated the various other groups were escorted to their seats.  The Audience Coordinator that is in charge of the audience energy etc. invited us down to the dance floor for a brief dance party before the show started.  As I was entering the dance floor area I nearly ran directly into Nyle DiMarco as he was trying to exit to the back of the studio.  We were able to take photos with a camera if we wanted while we were on the dance floor.  There was so much fun energy in the room I knew it would be a special
Paigenight.   After the 2 or 3 songs ended they asked us to take our seats.

Once everyone was back in their seats they rehearsed the opening number and the Audience Coordinator told us he would be telling us when to clap, cheer etc. and said they wanted to see a ton of energy out of us since the last two weeks they felt it was lacking a bit.  The energy in the room now was palpableDSC00357, I was beyond excited for the show to start.  A few minutes later we were told to start yelling and clapping as loud as we could and the show started live.  The opening number was absolutely amazing, full of energy and just flawless.  One interesting thing I noticed right away is it’s absolutely impossible for you to hear what Tom and Erin are saying in the studio because it is so loud.   When they are playing the packages that you see on TV they are running on two screens in the studio, one above the stairs to the main stage and then another in the back so their truly isn’t a bad seat in the house.  On the 2nd level there was only 2 rows and I am pretty sure the 3rd level was the same.  Another amazing thing that you see live is the set change outs.  They truly hustle to get those sets torn down and the new ones in within minutes on commercial breaks, I can only imaDSC00351gine how much more complicated it is on Disney week.

The judges were all so funny.  It was nice to have Maks on as guest judge.  I have read a lot of thoughts and comments about hMaksis guest spot and I will say my opinion is he was hard on some because he knows they can do better.  He has won the show, he knows what it takes along with all of his years of dance experience.

On commercial breaks they were doing trivia questions with the audience and it was nice to see how each of the couples gets in the zone so to speak ahead of their performance.  Some would stay loose, others would practice portions of their dances and others appeared to be running through their routiSharnane in their heads.  The beauty and pure emotion of some of the dances are just that much more intense in the live audience.  Nyle and Sharna’s dance for example had me in tears because you couldn’t help but, feel the emotion of every movement.  It’s a bit different than watching it at home.  The studio was actually a bit warm too which was a little surprising to me, I had always heard studios were more on the chilly side but, that’s probably for the safety of the pros/stars.

After the live show was over (it went SO fast), we were asked to stay in our seats because they were going to film the opening dance for week 7.  The pros had to go change to get ready for that and you could see the stars mingle a bit with their friends/family that had been in the audience that night.  After about 20 minutes the pros took the stage and did two takes for the opening number.  I don’t want to give away too much on that so it won’t spoil it when you watch.  Once that wGingeras done we all exited and got into this long line to get our cell phones back.  For more on what I thought on the dances please check out my weekly blog.

As a guest of someone on the show we had special access after the show to go back and say hello/thank you etc.  I have met most of the pros on the various tours over the years and I cannot say enough about down to earth, genuine, kind and talented they all are. It was nice to run into Sharna, Brittany, Hayley, Alan, Maks, Val and Keo. The stars that I came in contact with were also very nice.  Paige is stunningly beautiful and is having a greAlanat time on the show.  Kim is so sweet and just radiates happiness.  Nyle is even better looking in person, beyond handsome and Ginger is seriously the absolute nicest person.  Her husband Ben is incredibly funny and they really are the cutest couple.  I also saw Doug Flutie but, didn’t want to ask for a picture because he was with his friends and family at the time and already had quite a few people waiting for him.  He seemed to be very kind to each person he was interacting with.

If you ever have a chance to be a part of the live studio audience for either this show or another show that may be your personal favorite, I would highly recommend the experience.  It’s just such a fun eneKimrgy to be a part of the audience.  The dances are amazing on TV but, the emotion in person truly is palpable.  I will never forget this amazing experience and I am so thankful to have had the opportunity.

Dancing with the Stars: Disney Week

DISNEY Week

Season 22/Week 4

Disney promo

Who is ready for a magical night?  It’s always a great week on Dancing with the Stars, love all the creativity that flows, the sets, the costumes/makeup and feel good music.  This year’s cast continues to impress so I bet they will not disappoint tonight.

Opening number was so much fun to watch!  All the pro’s look amazing and who doesn’t love watching Val play violin and dance at the same time, his talent is well…endless.  I think tonight will be a special night!

Welcome to Zendaya as guest judge this week!  It was nice to have her back on the show.  Also great to have Brittany Cherry back in the troupe tonight.

Also note the dances all go up to 1 min 30 seconds this week.

Antonio Brown & Sharna Burgess:

Dance: Jazz/Song: “Friend Like Me” from Aladdin

#teamboomin

There is just something I love about Antonio.  I really feel he shares his heart with us each week.  Sharna is such a great instructor.  She mentioned he needs to bring his cool cat to the routine and she hopes it is his best dance yet.  First of all Sharna looks absolutely amazing tonight, you go girl!

I thought Antonio absolutely had his best dance to date, he held his own wiIMG_2560 (2)th the male pro dancers and he absolutely brought the cool factor.  FANASTIC performance.  It was fun, it was creative and he demonstrated so much personality in the character. I had to go back and watch it again I loved it!  Bravo!  I truly hope the judges break out the higher paddles for this dance because they deserve it!  FINALLY some good scores for #teamboomin!!!

Scores: 9-8-9-9 (35 out of 40)
Marla Maples & Tony Dovolani:

Dance:  Waltz/Song:  “Part of Your World” from The Little Mermaid

#teamMarTony

Marla seems like such a sweet person, I love her Zen attitude, when it gets stressful let’s just do a cartwheel.  She and Tony have such a great partnership.

I loved their dance, the opening animation was great, their dance with clean, classy, graceful and really told the story.  Great job to Tony on the choreography.  I know a lot of people have said they think they have played it safe.  I think they have just been giving us good, clean, solid dances each week.  Marla is so classy.  The judges gave them all good feedback. Zendaya made a good point to enjoy the process.  I am sure it’s extremely hard with so much going on each week.

Scores:  7-7-7-7 (28 out of 40)

Nyle DiMarco & Peta Murgatroyd:

Dance: Samba/Song: “Trashin The Camp” from Tarzan

#redefiningdanceIMG_2680

Every week I am on the edge of my seat when it’s time for Nyle and Peta.  I am just in awe of this couple.  It will be very interesting what happens during switch up week.  I am hoping Sharna gets matched with Nyle.  Nyle is going to be one smoking hot Tarzan! 12794640_1708426052703623_6862659142724183090_n

OMG that was the BEST!  I think that was my favorite dance I have ever seen Peta perform with a partner!  It was so much fun first and foremost but, my gosh,  I am speechless.  Nyle hits every single beat, every single move at just the right time and it is just amazing.  Kudos to Peta for fantastic choreography and for another week of inspiring teaching ability.  Nyle you showed off such amazing charisma, your fun personality and well you might just be the hottest Tarzan any of us ladies have ever seen!  FANTASTIC job to you both!  I am sure you will be getting some great scores!  The judges were all blown away.

Scores: 8-8-9-9 (34 out of 40)
Doug Flutie and Karina Smirnoff:

Dance: Jazz/Song: “A Spoon Full of Sugar” from Mary Poppins

#teamkutieIMG_2684

I am always interested in what they are showing in the packages each week as in many ways that is the producers telling a story and sometimes it does catch the stars at their most frustrating moments.  My impression of Doug is he is a perfectionist.  I think he has always been good at everything he has done and this is hard because he may not be picking it up as quickly as he wants to.  Karina made a good point when he got frustrated and said it’s only dancing. I hope he finds the fun in this experience.

If there is an underdog this season I routed for it would Cep-pQ4WEAAirCqbe Doug, I do think he tries, I just think it’s not coming together for him to the point
of progressing as much as some of the others.  This is a tough season filled with a lot of talent.  Their dance was fun, there were some mishaps and it’s just not up to the same level as the other pairs right now but, I truly applaud Doug for the effort he puts in each week.

When Tom told them they are safe after their dance I have to say my mouth fell to the floor.  We are in for a surprise elimination this week I am afraid to say.

Scores:  6-6-6-6 (24 out of 40)

Kim Fields and Sasha Farber:

Dance: Quickstep/Song “I Wanna Be Like You” from The Jungle Book

#teamkimsha

Kim and Sasha are another pair I really look forward to each week.  Kim has truly relaxed and embraced the fun of the show.  She is full of joy, spunk and they are just such a great pairing!  It’s so great having Sasha back as a pro this year!

Their dance was so much fun, it was light, full of content and creativity!  It was hard not to smile and you could feel Kim’s joy right through the screenCeqXaXfWIAA1BSq!  Len really loved it and said it was her best dance so far and I totally agree.  Every week Kim improves.  Her smile is contagious.  It was hilarious when she dove on the desk to thank Bruno for his compliment.

Scores: 8-8-8-8 (32 out of 40)

Jodie Sweetin & Keo Motsepe:

Dance:  Cha-cha/Song: “Try Everything” from Zootopia

#teamMoSweet

Jodie has the right mindset.  Loved what she said in her package that last week was emotional but, now it was time for some fun.  It’s apparent she works really hard with Keo each week and really wants to excel.  I am still shocked they were in the bottom 3 last week.  Loved seeing Jodie’s kids come to practice and be so excited for this week!

Their dance was a lot of fun, Keo is really getting to show his talents IMG_2561 (2)as a pro on the show this season and Jodie never stopped smiling even though they were having a few issues in the dance.  She said later that she couldn’t hear the music over the enthusiastic fans which really made it hard for her in the Cha-cha.  Bruno is waiting for the WOW factor, I agree she has it in her absolutely.  She just needs a breakout week.  Len had a lot of positive comments which I thought was great.  Jodie really has the potential and I hope they have the chance to let it shine.

Scores: 7-6-7-7 (27 out of 30)

Von Miller and Witney Carson:

Dance:  Viennese waltz/Song: “A Dream Is A Wish” from Cinderella

#teamblondemiller

Witney looked absolutely breathtaking tonight. The perfect Cinderella.  This couple I am still on the fence about.  I don’t think the packages help matters, especially the comment on how did we end up with the same scores as them?  I don’t blame Witney for her rules that would drive me crazy too and it’s just not polite.

Witney did a great job with the choreography, with the major height difference bIMG_2558 (2)etween them I am sure this dance was challenging to keep the frame.  I found it hard when I was learning to dance to do it with someone the same height as me.  I do think this was Von’s best dance to date.  I just think maybe he isn’t connecting with the audience or something.   Will be interesting to see how he does in switch up week.

Scores: 8-8-8-8 (32 out of 40)

Ginger Zee and Valentin Chmerkovskiy

Dance:  Foxtrot/Song: “Belle (Bonjour)” from Beauty And the Beast

#teamGinandJuice

I am in love with #teamGinandJuice!  They are such a great positive match and I look forward to their dances each week.  Ginger is totally living the dream of so many on this show and to be partnered with Val too!  Val is so relaxed and you can tell how much fun they are having even as they work hard!

Ginger could easily be on Broadway I literally smiled through their entire dance it was absolute PERFECTION. Val made a very sexy Gaston it was so fun watching them both bring their characters to life tonight! Val Good Val you deserve tremendous praise for your creativity on this dance.   You perfectly choreographed to all of Ginger’s strengths and I truly thought it deserved 10 but, let’s see what the judges say.

I thought it deserved a 10 but, straight 9’s still puts them to the top of the leaderboard.  You had your breakout week Ginger!

Scores: 9-9-9-9 (36 out of 40)

Wanya Morris & Lindsay Arnold:

Dance: Samba/Song:  “Circle of Life” from The Lion King

#TeamYaYaZee

Wanya is such a powerhouse, I am thinking tonight he will be one to watch.  He Cep4rolWEAEOy_n.jpg largeseems to excel with the faster dance styles.  He absolutely has that competitive drive and he’s fun to watch.

Their dance was crazy powerful, fast, really allowed Wanya to show off his tremendous presence.  Lindsay has been doing a great job creating very unique, fresh dances each week.  She and Wanya really are a fun partnership to watch as
well.   He has a great spirit and I love his drive to be his personal best which will take him far in the competition.

Paige Vanzant and Mark Ballas:

Dance:  Quickstep/Song: “You’ve Got a Friend in Me” from Toy Story

#teamPowRightInTheKisser

Paige seems like such a sweet girl.  Love that she has found friends on DWTS.  Their song tonight truly fits her sweet and fun personality.  She’s an absolute contender this season and she shines every single week when she hits the daCeGvaQ3XIAE9fGonce floor.

I am enjoying Mark’s choreography this season.  Sometimes his routine
s are a bit too theatrical for me but, this season he is in a great zone.  He is showing off Paige’s talent and personality in every routine.  They did such a great job tonight, it was fun, it was filled with content and you can tell Mark is really challenging her.  They truly captured the story, I absolutely loved it!

Scores:  9-9-9-9 (36 out of 40)

Elimination Time:

Bottom 2:

Keo and Jodie

Tony and Marla

Neither of these couples belonged in the bottom 2 in my opinion.  It was awful to see Tony and Marla go home.  Marla was so amazing all season and I truly enjoyed her partnership with Tony.

Final thoughts:

Bravo to ALL of the dancers, makeup artists, crew, set design, hair, costumes and everyone that worked hard on this show.  It was truly an amazing production from start to finish!  It’s the Switch Up next week below would be my ideal switch up’s. Switch up week is always so interesting because we are just seeing all of these partnerships grow and then they get thrown a curveball but it can also be helpful to get another pros prospective.   The new partners will be announced on GMA 4/13.

My ideal switch up partners:

Val and Jodie

Keo and Ginger

Mark and Kim

Sasha and Paige

Sharna and Nyle

Peta and Antonio

Witney and Wanya

Lindsay and Doug

Karina and Von

Dancing With the Stars Season 22 Premiere

This season of Dancing with the Stars has the potential to be the best season to date.  There is a lot of talent and fun personalities on the cast.  I have been watching this show since Season 1 and it continues to improve year after year and it truly is a guilty pleasure of mine.  Watching the show and going on the tours inspired me to learn to dance.  I recently did a boot camp in NYC and truly had fun and surprised myself.  It’s not easy that is for sure, it is great exercise and its fun to challenge yourself.

Opening number was a lot of fun, you could feel the energy through the television screen and it must have been fantastic fun to be in the audience.  I hope one day I will be lucky enough to sit in the audience.  You have to sign up for a waiting list and then they contact you as tickets become available.

It’s also great to have Len back.  He is often tough but, he does provide a lot of great insight in his critiques.  Carrie Ann and Bruno are always a pleasure and Bruno just makes me smile every week with his passionate critiques.

Kim Fields and Sasha Farber:  First things first, it’s so great to have Sasha back as a Pro.  He tru12823324_10153965771476740_974804722933452386_oly deserves this opportunity and Kim is lucky to have him as a partner.  Kim Fields was on Facts of Life, Living Single and Real Housewives of Atlanta.   First dance is the Cha-Cha.   I thought they did a good job for the first week.  The Cha-Cha in my opinion is a difficult dance to learn.  Kim showed a lot of personality, charisma and truly looked like she was having a lot of fun out there.

Scores:   7-6-7 (20 out of 30)

Paige Vanzant and Mark Ballas:  Paige is a UFC Fighter and Mark is a two time DWTS Champion.  Paige is adorable and has a f10849077_10153965771496740_544914179149190498_oun personality.  First dance:  Foxtrot.  I thought Paige did a great job, she was very elegant and seemed to soften up since the practice footage.  She had a lot of great lines and a lot of grace.    Paige has a lot of potential that is for sure!

Scores:  7-7-7 (21 out of 30)

Doug Flutie and Karina Smirnoff:  Karina has one DWTS Mirror Ball Championship.  Doug is an NFL Legend.  First dance: Foxtrot.  Doug s10403942_10153965770901740_8212991822311955465_oeems to have a Type A personality and truly seems to have the desire to learn.  It’s not easy to try something new that is totally out of your comfort zone.  He has a fun energy and truly looked like he was trying.  Is he a natural dancer…no but, he gave it his all and I give him a lot of credit for that.  I think each week you will see him improve.

Scores:  5-5-5 (15 out of 30)

Jodie Sweetin & Keo Motsepe:  I am so glad Keo has a great partner this year.  The last few seasons for him have been tough and he is truly talented.   Jodie played Stephanie Tanner from Full House and the recent Fuller House series.  She has genuin12801380_10153965771156740_7445900850692429156_ne excitement which is always fun to watch.   She is a perfectionist and it’s hard when you are as you learn to dance because you want everything to be totally correct.   Their first dance was a Tango.   I found this was a fun dance to learn when I took my lessons.  I thought they did a good job.  It had a lot of attitude and was great for a week 1 performance.   Jodie has a lot of potential to go far this season.

Scores:  7-6-7 (20 out of 30)

12829462_10153965770861740_5709319386015912580_o

Geraldo Rivera and Edyta Sliwinska:  It’s great having Edyta back this season after a 12 season break.  She is extremely talented and beautiful.  Geraldo is best known for his talk show and news reporting.  I didn’t realize he was 72 years old.  First dance:  Cha-Cha.  I am trying to find something positive to say about the performance.  He literally walked through the entire performance and unless he makes a lot of improvement he could be the first one going home or definitely early to leave in the season.

Scores:  5-4-4 (13 out of 30)

Marla Maples & Tony Dovolani:  Tony won the Mirror ball during the All Stars season with Melissa Rycroft.  Marla is a Broadway star, TV Host and ex-wife to Donald Trump.  I am excited about this match up, it has a ton of potential.  Tony is12472821_10153965771166740_6926092552106633690_n just so sweet and such an amazing dancer.  He has a ton of charisma, as does Marla and it will be fun to watch this pair.  First dance: Quickstep.   Marla is very elegant, has a fun personality and a lot of potential.  I think they will go far this season. .  I thought their dance was a lot of fun!

Scores:  7-7-7 (21 out of 30)

Wanya Morris & Lindsay Arnold:  Wanya is a singer in the group Boyz II Men.   This is Lindsay’s third season.   First da12799222_10153965771421740_4729347111452576560_nnce:  Cha-Cha.  Wanya has a fun personality and his charisma shines through the TV screen.  He’s going to fun to watch!  This pair reminded me so much of Alfonso and Witney.  I think he will go far in this competition for sure, so much fun to watch this pair!

Scores:  8-7-8 (23 out of 30)

Ginger Zee and Valentin Chmerkovskiy:  Ginger is a new Mom and a meteorologist on GMA.  Val won the Mirror Ball with Rumor in Season 20.  Full disclosure I am a huge Val supporter, have been since his very first appearance on the show. He has that special gift, a huge heart and he is so sweet to everyone he comes in contact with.  Ginger is super cute, she has a lot of spunk 12792091_10153965771136740_2438778521254467278_oand a desire to learn.   First dance:  Jive.  This was a challenging first dance.  Jive does not look like an easy dance to learn.  Val posted a video of his swollen knees on Instagram one night after practice.  Ginger really has a dynamic personality and I think this pair has a lot of potential.  Val is a great teacher and they will be another fun pair to watch.

Scores:  8-7-8 (23 out of 30)

Mischa Barton and Artem Chigvintsev:  Artem is such a gem, what a n10540571_10153965771586740_2272354560326802284_oice person and a true talent.  Mischa is well known for being an actress on the OC.  First dance:  Tango.   Mischa is definitely not a natural dancer.   She did ok for the first dance and I think she will need to put a lot more work/effort into it to be successful this season especially with this cast.  I am sure she was nervous.  I also think she will need to relax a bit and let people get to know.  Artem is a good teacher, hopefully she will loosen up a bit and take advantage of learning from him.

Scores:  5-5-6 (16 out of 30)

Nyle DiMarco & Peta Murgatroyd:  Nyle is deaf, an actor and winner of America’s Next Top Model.  Peta was the Season 14 champion.  I am so excited to watch this pair dance!  Nyle is gorgeous!  First dance:  Cha Cha.  I have one w12832552_10153965771696740_2557852128526259458_nord after watching their performance:  WOW!  The fact he is deaf did not stop him at all.  He can only feel vibrations if the music is loud enough.  Peta did such a fantastic job as a teacher and they truly seemed to be in tune with each other’s bodies.  I am so excited to watch this beautiful pair dance this season.  Nyle truly shows that you cannot let anything stop you from learning, from giving it your all and truly blew everyone away on night one.

Scores:  8-7-8 (23 out of 30)

Antonio Brown & Sharna Burgess:  Antonio plays for the Pittsburg Steelers as a wide receiver.  This is Sharna’s 7th season and she is just a sweetheart.  Loved having her on the Dance All Night tour this year.  I11731703_10153965770896740_5948663774764525204_o think the combination of their personalities is going to make them a team to watch this season!  First dance:  Quickstep.  Antonio did a great job, he has crazy charism as well and this super fun spunk!  I will be really surprised if they don’t go far this season!

Scores:   8-6-7 (21 out of 30)

Von Miller and Witney Carson:  Von Miller plays for the Denver Broncos and was the MVP of this year’s Super Bowl.  Witney won a Mirror Ball in Season 19 with Alfonso.  Witney is a great teacher and a sweet person.  I have seen her on a few of the tours12771532_10153965771321740_4075752511883759128_o and I am sure she will be an asset to teaching Von.  They definitely will be dealing with a major height difference.  First dance: Foxtrot.    I thought they did well for the first dance. Von is charming and I think just needs to loosen up a bit more.

Scores:  8-6-7 (21 out of 30)

Top of the leaderboard this week were:

Wanya & Lindsay

Ginger & Val

Nyle & Peta

Bottom of the leaderboard this week were:

Geraldo & Edyta

Dance Troupe comments:  Welcome to the new members.  I was bummed to see Brittany wasn’t in the troupe this year.  Also wished we had Julz Tocker and Paul Barris in the troupe, they did such a great job on tour this winter.

Final thoughts:  What a season this is going to be!  I always look forward to Monday nights.  Sorry this blog is a bit late this week.  I was traveling for business.   So many great stars this season.  I think from the football player’s night 1 performance Antonio is the one to watch with Von a close second.  It’s going to be such a joy watching Nyle this season, I am still blown away by his performance tonight.  Ginger and Wanya also have a ton of potential.  I think bottom two this week will be Geraldo and either Mischa or Doug.  I think first to go home based on performance should be Geraldo but, we all know it comes down to the votes!

Dancing With the Stars – Dance All Night Tour

Dancing With the Stars

Dance All Night Tour 2015-2016

Dancing With the Stars Dance All Night Tour 2015-2016    This was my 3rd Dancing with the Stars tour and hands down the BEST one to date! The stage set up with fantastic, great music/dance selection and the cast was filled with not only great talent but, the kindest people.

I went to four shows on this tour and did VIP for each. I will talk more about the VIP portion of the experience in another entry.

The cast included: Valentin Chmerkovskiy, Sharna Burgess, Peta Murgatroyd, Lindsay Arnold, Artem Chigvintsev, Keo Motsepe, Emma Slater, Alan Bersten, Brittany Cherry, Jenna Johnson, Paul Barris, Julz Tocker and celebrity from Season 21 Alek Skarlatos and Hayes Grier also joined the cast for a handful of shows!

Picture3I have been asked by several friends what were your favorite dances. That is just so hard to pick because they were all so good for different reasons. I think the ladies would all agree that the men of DWTS doing the Magic Mike dance to Pony was well let’s just say HOT, anyone else need a cold shower after? I took two videos if you want to check them out. This one I affectionately call Magic Val: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=biaVy845yV4

Picture2The 2nd video I tried to capture more of the dancers, my seat was a tough angle. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5gFBdHV-uM0

Val and Peta’s dance to Young and Beautiful was so moving. I loved the Gatsby Swing portion as well. The Around the World & Movie section was filled with so many great performances from Brittany & Paul’s Salsa, Alan and Sharna’s “Godfather,” Artem, Emma, Brittany and Lindsay’s “James Bond,” Peta and Keo’s Samba. Brilliance! Artem and Lindsay did a fantastic Argentine Tango that was excellent. The performance of Val, Lindsay, Jenna and Alan to Wicked Games was one you could feel the emotion in the dance. Brittany and Alan’s contemporary to Jealous was also just stunning. Emma and Julz did the most moving waltz, they truly told a story in their dance and you couldn’t help but be caught up in it.Picture5

Every style of dance was perfectly portrayed, you could feel the raw emotion and energy and each performance flew by because it was just that good. I personally loved the audience participation segment. It was fun to watch and for individuals to get to live their dreams of dancing with one of the pros!Picture4

One of the most special moments of the night was the section where the Dancers all described why they dance/what dance means to them. So often on #DWTS it’s always focused on the celebrity. It was so special to learn all of their stories and see how it shaped their joy not only in dance but, in life.Picture6

The group performances were all absolutely stellar. Ending the show with Andy Grammer’s “Good to Be Alive” was perfection. You couldn’t help but, have that song and that happy energy in your head the rest of the night. The dancers gave it their all every single night of the performances and I cannot say enough what a privilege it was to meet them at the meet and greets, but to sit in the audience and watch their talent and brilliance come to life.Picture7
